Spatial-Configurational Comparison

For the KL118 Shopping Mall complex in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I worked with Systematica to develop a systematic comparison between the original plan for distribution of escalators, stairs and lifts, and that redesigned by Systematica. The purpose was to develop an objective criterion to evaluate the eventual success of Systematica’s redesign of the shopping mall spaces, and to determine if the efforts to change the proposal would be valuable.

The resulting analysis developed a methodology for testing a multi-level spatial configuration and for implementing Statistical Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) tests to determine the relative value in improvements to the proposal; it was found that in all cases, spatial network connections exhibited statistically significant improvements, thus encouraging Systematica to use my analysis as evidence in presenting their proposals to the client.
